Our aim is to empower and inform – and to reach as many hospitality employees as possible. We have a set structure for classes and training; however, we are very flexible and willing to adapt our training delivery to your individual needs and operating schedules.
Welcome to Memphis is a 501c3 nonprofit subsidiary of the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB). Our customer service skills classes and destination knowledge classes are available for no charge to active CVB members and their employees. In addition, discounts are offered to our local trade associations: the Metropolitan Memphis Hotel & Lodging Association, the Memphis Restaurant Association, and the Metro Memphis Attractions Association
Scheduling & Registration
For all walk-in training sessions we require individuals to register online Eventbrite. Please note that your registration helps us and helps you. Your registration is the best way to avoid any inconvenience in the event of a cancellation or location change.
To register for a walk-in class on behalf of a group, visit our Eventbrite page, choose your scheduled event and indicate how any participants will attend.
We also bring classes to you! Upon request, we provide onsite training to your staff at your business location. To request an onsite training, call Mary at (901) 543-5327 or email to reserve your preferred date(s)/time(s).
CVB member employees may attend open training sessions for no charge.
Non member employees may attend open training sessions for $75 per person.
Industry association member employees, individual operators, and employees of companies with 3 or fewer staff members may attend for $35 per person.
With CVB members, onsite trainings are available to you with a minimum class size of ten participants, with up to 3 onsite sessions a year. If you need more than 3 sessions, email Mary or phone at (901) 543-5327.
Businesses that are not CVB members can access customized, onsite trainings for $100 per person (10 person minimum).
Photo Release & Consent
Photos may be taken during our classes and used on social media and on this website. When you register, you give your consent (photo release) for Welcome to Memphis to use your image online and in its promotional materials. Images will only be used to promote and support the nonprofit mission of Welcome to Memphis.
If you have any concern or hesitation about this consent, please let us know before you begin the registration process for yourself or your employee team.
We present Pick Awards to formally recognize outstanding guest contact employees. Anyone can nominate guest-contact personnel to receive a Pick Award by using this form [link to Google Doc: Pick Award Nomination Form]. This year’s annual Pick Awards Ceremony is scheduled for November 1, 2016. In July 2016, we will launch a new effort to encourage visitor and industry participation in Pick Award nominations: our “Pick Me!” campaign. Through this campaign, we provide printed collateral to all companies whose employees participate in our training program. These materials include “Pick Me!” name cards for employees to give to customers, a Welcome to Memphis “Participant” window decal, and Pick Awards informational fliers.
All Pick Award winners and runners-up receive cash prizes! At the Pick Awards Ceremony, one winner and two runners-up will be announced and presented with their Pick Award trophies. Everyone who is nominated for the awards will also be recognized during the ceremony.
We conduct two surveys with program participants: an exit survey (at the end of each training session) to evaluate the effectiveness of our training, and a demographic survey (optional) to describe the audience we are serving. Compiled results of these surveys may be shared with our funding partners and donors, participating employers, training participants, and the general public (via our annual report). As a nonprofit organization, we consider effective programs and responsible governance to be high priorities. This data helps us stay on track to achieve our mission and goals.
